I’m new to these cameras. I just got a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT and a Canon Lense 50mm 1:1.8. The lense is good, but I need to take a self portrait and when I hold my camera at arms length with this lense it doesn’t zoom out enough. What lense can I buy that will allow me to take a self portrait and allow me to zoom out more?
Only a wide lens, 20mm and under maybe. Pretty expensive. You can just buy a tripod and use the self timer mode and pose really quick, or at an angle to make it look you are holding the camera if that's what you're going for. Getting a remote is also very nice.
What lense can I buy for my Canon EOS XT to take self portraits?

Posted by admin | Under Canon EOS Digital XT Wednesday Nov 19, 2008please give me your opinion as I am new at the DSLR
I have the D40 and I really like it. Between those models, I’d suggest the D40. However, Canon has a new model out now, called the XS.

It has much more features than either of those, including live view, which lets you see the picture you’re taking on the screen (like a compact camera).

Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT – Body Only Simple, Limitless Performance For convenience, ease of use and no-compromise SLR performance, look no further than the EOS Digital Rebel XT. Featuring Canon’s Digital Trinity – an 8.0 Megapixel CMOS sensor, Canon’s own DIGIC II Image Processor and compatibility with over 50 EF Lenses-the new Digital Rebel XT has an all new lightweight and compact body, improved performance across the board and the easiest operation in its class, simplifying complex tasks and ensuring the perfect shot every time. With intuitive simplicity, powerful performance and unprecedented affordability, the Rebel XT is the EOS digital camera for everyone. High-performance digital SLR with 8.0 Megapixel CMOS Sensor and DIGIC II Image Processor 8.0 Megapixel CMOS Sensor The EOS Digital Rebel XT features Canon’s 8.0 Megapixel CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) sensor, which captures images of exceptional clarity and tonal range and offers the most pixels in its class. This APS-C size sensor (22.2 x 14.8mm) has the same 3:2 ratio as film cameras, creating an effective angle of view that is 1.6x the normal EF Lens focal length. Featuring an on-chip Noise Reduction Circuit with an expanded ISO range, the Digital Rebel XT’s sensor offers professional sophistication in a consumer package. Digic II Image Processor The EOS Digital Rebel XT’s sensor is driven by the DIGIC II Image Processor, which has been enhanced across the board with improvements in speed and image quality. Information captured by the sensor is processed and assembled into images of exceptional clarity and resolution. Consuming very little energy, DIGIC II works with the sensor to ensure natural colors, accurate white balance and speedy write times, letting you focus on taking pictures. Smallest and lightest EOS Digital SLR to date (as of February 2005) Much smaller than its predecessor, the Digital Rebel XT measures 4.98″ across, 3.71″ tall and only 2.63″ deep, so it fits perfectly
Replacement Camera Battery for Canon EOS Digital Rebel
Posted by admin | Under Canon EOS Rebel Camera Tuesday Nov 18, 2008Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi question about using the LCD screen?
Posted by admin | Under Digital EOS Rebel Sunday Nov 16, 2008so Im using this camera,
its a friend's and Im trying to figure out how to use the LCD screen instead of the view finder like a regular simple digital camera with just the LCD.
does anyone know how to do this?
I already know how to view pictures and stuff like that so thats not what Im looking for
thanks!
If you want to compose the photo with the LCD, it's better to stay with a point and shoot (hence cheaper) camera. What you have is a digital SLR, and basically you compose the photo by looking though the optical viewfinder. It shows you exactly what the lens is seeing.
Some dSLR cameras have "live view" which is what you are looking for. But think about it. If the camera is 2 to 3 pounds (especially if a larger lens is mounted on it), can you hold it a foot away from your face to do that?
You have better control of the lens (zooming / focusing) when it's rested in your right hand and against your face.
To answer your question, your camera doesn't have live view.
Why does my canon digital rebel 350d xt not get pictures to my vista?
Posted by admin | Under Canon Digital XT Sunday Nov 16, 2008I downloaded the correct driver for my camera from canon.com, and installed it. But i don't understand why i still can't connect a usb cable from my camera to get pictures from it. HELP PLEASE!
Connect the USB then turn the camera on then push the print/connect button on the camera (looks like a printer).
If that doesnt work try using ZoomBrowsers interface.
If that doesnt work try this
Click the start symbol>computer
If your camera is listed there (will probly look like a hard drive) then your computer sees it but hasnt assigned a program to communicate with it. If you dont see it there hit F5 (refresh). If it still doesnt come up then you should contact Canon directly.
A much easier way of doing this is to just get a card reader and use ZoomBrowser to access your card. Make sure that the card reader can access CF cards and not just the more popular SD cards.
Canon Digital Rebel XT EOS?
Posted by admin | Under Canon EOS Digital XT Sunday Nov 16, 2008I've heard a lot of good things about this camera; what are its downfalls? I know it had a viewfinder but it also has an LCD screen.. can they both be used for shooting pictures or can you only see through the viewfinder to shoot?
What about compared to the Canon 1100 SD IS?
No, using the viewfinder on a SLR or DSLR is how composing and choosing exposure is done.
There are just a few DSLR's that have the live-view feature and unless you are using a telescope, microscope or shooting table tops (small product advertising) live view is not really necessary. If your idea is to use live-view the same way P&S cameras owners do, composing photos while holding the camera at arm's length, it is a bad ideal This always introduces camera movement and after a few hours of doing this with a two pound plus camera and lens, you will see why this is not a recommended technique.
There is another little quirk with the live view equipped cameras. Most of them will not auto-focus in the live view mode, although the Nikon D3 and D300 cameras will in two modes … tripod and hand held. I use the live view to wow my inexperienced clients … sort of like how we used to use Polaroid adapters on our cameras in the days of shooting film … to prove to them we really knew how to use our cameras to get perfect exposures … expensive photo schools aside.
Other than the fact the XT has interchangeable lenses, has been used by many beginning pros successfully for years and has a sensor that is over 15 times larger than the 1100 SD only you can decide which will fit your style of shooting. Go into a store and hold both in your hands and see which you like the best
