DSLR question: for $599 a Nikon 6mp D40 or for $699 an 8mp Canon Rebel XT.?

Would I benefit more from the larger MP of the Canon or the supposed "sharper sensor" of the Nikon? I will rarely if ever print the images out so detail on screen and overall clarity is what would be more important int he long run.

In my opinion,the D40x is currently the best SLR in the price range you are searching. It is 10.2 megapixels, very small by SLR standards, and has all of the great features Nikons are known for.

But, before making your final choice, keep this in mind: Whichever brand you choose the first time, you will almost certainly be forced into choosing from now on. The reason for this is because the lens’s will only be compatible with the same brand. Because of that, I recommend you spend more time researching the lens than you do the camera body; afterall, the body will get replaced in a few years while the lens’s go on and on.

However, both Canon and Nikon offer a huge variety of excellent optics, so you can’t really make a bad decision.

will a Bower 724AFC flash work with a canon 8 mp xt, If not can someone please lead me to a inexpensive site to purchase a nice flash?

I don’t know if the Bower is a nice flash expecially since it only costs $50 on Amazon.

I would prefer to see you buy a Canon flash. They have proprietary features that third party flashes cannot match, like E-TTL on newer Canon cameras It is $125, but well worth the extra money, in durability as well as features that will make your life easier when you have to resort to using a flash.

What is the best affordable "everyday" lens for the Canon Rebel XT (8mp) Camera?

By "everyday" I mean a lens that is versatile and could be used in most camera cases. Something not overly wide and not overly telescopic, but in the middle (ex. 17mm – 85mm or 24mm-85mm). I want the one that takes the best quality pictures (for the money) and don’t really care if the lens is cheap and or plasticy. I’m on a budget so I’m looking for one $550 or less. Thanks a lot!!!

The Tamron recommended by our future first husband looks like a nice lens. I use the Nikon 17-55 f/2.8 and find the large aperture and overall range of the lens to be quite useful. I’ve got a couple million more pixels to play with than you do, though, and you might appreciate a little more on the telephoto end.

Test Footage – Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS

Lets be honest, this is a normal point and shoot camera that to my surprise has the ability to do pretty good video work. I know people shouldnt use this as a video camera, but for me, I dont have the funds to buy a video camera now so I will use what I have. And, in the process had fun taking this footage through Motion for a SmoothCam filter (better then the FCP one) and Final Cut Pro for a few cuts and all. There isnt anything special to this footage, but, it was just fun to do.
