It only covers a small portion of the sky because unfortunately the widest I can get is 18mm on 1.6x crop camera. I also opted for a vertical orientation, which in hind sight appears to have been not necessary to capture the most glimpses of the show. I’ll be trying this again tomorrow if the weather permits and will definitely go horizontal.

As stated at the beginning of the video, this is about 45 minutes’ worth of video compressed into under a minute. I shot approximately .51 frames per second and am playing it back at .03 seconds per frame, which by my fuzzy math works out to be 66.66~X “real life” speed.

The f1.4 is a nice lens, but an underwhelming improvement on the f1.8.
I would keep the f1.8, ignore the f1.4 and spend the money elsewhere (35mm f2? 85mm f1.8?) expand your kit rather than replace with only very slightly better. The f1.8 isn’t without its flaws, and the f1.4 is a better lens, but, and it’s a big but, the f1.4 has better construction and a faster focus, but it doesn’t take images that are all that much better, the nifty fifty is a bargain, I would keep enjoying it and buy other primes at different focal lengths with the cash.

While the Nikon D300 is an excellent camera and perhaps has some better features than the Canon 40D, why would you change systems? If you only have a few Canon lenses, then sell your Canon equipment and replace them with Nikon lenses. At any time, Nikon or Canon can have better technology … right now Nikon has the edge, but two years ago they were even and less than five years ago Canon had the edge. You can go broke switching between camera systems, just to have the latest and greatest technology.

Pick one, Nikon or Canon and then stick with it and build your lens system … camera bodies come and go (about every four or so years)

A compilation of videos from my familys 9-day itinerary aboard Carnival Cruise Lines newest vessel, The Carnival Dream. It was the the Dreams first trip from its home port of Cape Canaveral, Florida. We left Thursday, December 3, 2009, and spent the next 2 days as Fun Days at Sea. December 6, our first port of call was Antigua and Barbuda, a British Leeward Island. December 7, we were at Tortola, a British Virgin Island. We spent December 8th on the US Virgin Island of St. Thomas. December 9, we glanced at San Juan, Puerto Rico, and December 10th, we shopped in the small island of Grand Turk.

The Carnival Dream was beautiful, I enjoyed every second of it, I highly recommend it.

You’ll need an adapter. Possibly two…. that Vivitar probably has a T4 mount, in which case you’ll require an M42 adapter and an M42 to EOS adapter.

If it was sold as a Canon lens, it might have the old Canon FD mount. That requires a different adapter.

And after you spend the additional money to make it fit on your XT, you’ll probably end up with a lens that’s massively crippled in term of functionality. I’d do some research first:
* Will the lens still meter with the required adapter(s)?
* Will it auto focus? (Is it even an auto focus lens… manual focusing on an XT is no fun.)
* Will you have infinity focus?
* If the required adapters have any glass in them, that degrades the image quality – which probably isn’t great to begin with.

Unless this is a hobby project, I’d personally get something else. You can find used Sigma/ Tamron/ Tokina/ Quantaray/ Canon (!) lenses that will work splendidly on your XT for peanuts.
