Just bought a broken canonrebel xt for 75 dollars from a person on craigslist. I plan on taking it to the camera clinic in tulsa and getting it fixed. Also big news about getting accepted into NSU.

I am interested in purchasing a Rebel XT (8 mp). I keep reading that the body is excellent but the lens in the kit is less than stellar and a different lens should be bought separately. I started looking around a bit for alternative lenses (everyday lenses, not telephoto) and were a bit shocked at the sticker prices. Are there any affordable ($100-$250) lenses that are a noticible step up from the lens supplied in the kit? Thanks!!!
Not really. The lens kits is great for the price, just not compared to other $600+ lenses. The lens kit is a decent lens but if you want quality spend at least $500+ on a lens. But of course theres decent lenses under $500, just not as good as Canons L lenses. The lens kit is a decent lens, you can do wonderful stuff with it but if you dont need speed, (f/2.8) then the lens kit is great for generaic, everyday lens.

The EOS system positions the image stabilization function in the lens. This makes it possible to equip each lens with a system optimized for the specific lens characteristics, enabling high-precision correction of camera shake even for high-magnification telephoto units. When shooting with an SLR camera, it is necessary to confirm the effects of image stabilization in the viewfinder. A stable viewfinder image lets the photographer concentrate on the creative aspects of picture taking, such as framing, focus, and special effects, ensuring comfortable shooting that maximizes every photo opportunity.
I have a CanonRebel XT (also the 350D). I am looking to rent a lens for a trip that is sharp in low lighting with out use of a flash? I am thinking of the Tamron 17-50mm. I am limited because the XT is not a full frame camera. Any suggestions? Anyone used the Tamron 17-50mm with an XT?
Sigma 30mm f/1.4 is a great lens and a good focal length. The Canon 50mm f/1.8 is also a great lens, little long for all around but still very usuable.
Making of Canon L Series 500mm F4L IS USM. Part 3 of 3 in the production of expensive camera gear. L series is Canon’s Premium lens line featuring fluorite lenses. IS refers to Image Stabilzation build into the lens, and USM refers to Ultrasonic Motor drive that makes focusing faster than older systems. Currently I’m using a Rebel XT, although I’m thinking of upgrading to an XTi or 5DMk2. This 500 with the New 5D would be a sweet combination.
I want to buy a new lens for my canonrebel xt. I take a lot of pictures at weddings, I also take pictures for the magazine I work for, a lot of those are model photoshoots, and different items that we feature in the magazine. I took one photography class in college so when it comes to lenses I know next to nothing. I have about $300 to $500 to work with. Thanks
What lens do you currently have? Do you want a longer lens or a wide angle lens… what do you wish to do that you cannot do now? Speak with an experienced photographer and ask for some direction and advice.
Check with www.keh.com and www.bhphotovideo.com and see which lens is offered at a better price.
Let me warn you: there are a lot of shysters in the photography equipment selling business… I no longer do business with Adorama after witnessing a young salesman spitting on a lens and trying to wipe a scratch with the edge of his apron, and he tried to sell me a lens with a bent lens mount as being in near mint conditions. I will never recommend Tri-State to anyone; they have a reputation of being a Bait & Switch operation; they tried it with me, and after 3 months of waiting, I called yelled and demanded to speak with the manager, who of course "had stepped out;" I left my telephone number and someone called, asked if it was a law company and wanted to speak with the attorney, asked if he was an attorney, hanged up and my refund came in early next morning via overnight delivery; I never heard from the so-called manager. It was so coincidental that the same background noise was present on both calls!
I’ve never had issues with either keh.com or B & H; they are long-standing companies and they do not wish to tarnish their excellent reputations.
Since lenses usually outlast cameras (moreso today with digital cameras), I suggest that you save a bit of money (especially if it’s coming from YOUR pocket) and get a good used lens from keh.com and you’ll save money and will afford a better lens than if you bought new.
Just make sure you buy from a reputable place and puh-leeze do not fall for that old "We No Longer Have That Item But We Can Let You Have A Better One For The Same Price" routine… they’re referring to a cheaper generic that might even be a floor model or a returned lens or even a repaired/refurbished lens or a Gray Market generic lens.
There are a lot of rip-off sites that originate in NYC; they have only a "warehouse" telephone, fax and even an "800" number and an Internet site but never a storefront address or a warehouse address where a potential buyer can see a face or view the merchandice… be leery (yes, I live in NYC).
I use Nikon equipment and I like the lenses put out by Nikon (called Nikkor) but I can tell you two things about Canon Lenses, you have a huge selection of lenses and the quality of lenses is also very good. Don’t skimp by getting a cheaper lens, skimp by getting a GOOD used lens from a reputable store instead.
