How to find wide lens for Canon Digital Rebel XT 350d?
Posted by admin | Under Canon XT Rebel Digital Camera Sunday Mar 7, 2010I have a Canon Rebel EOS DSLR XT 350d. I’m looking for wide lens. I looked on amazon and I don’t know which one to pick. I haven’t looked at BH Photography yet. I just want to know which lens to get and without trying it on my camera.
I can’t afford anything too pricey. Something in the 300 and below range works for me.
I guess first you have to decide whether you want a ‘fixed’ lens (also known as a prime lens), or a zoom lens.
Zoom lenses are more versatile in the sense that you can change from, say wide angle to normal or telephoto, but they are "slow" (meaning they aren’t as good for shooting in low light), and they tend to be less sharp than prime lenses.
For a canon rebel (or for that matter most digital cameras, with some exceptions), you will want something like 18mm if you want to shoot wide angle pictures.
I have a zoom lens (18-50mm) that works fine on my Canon digital eos camera. Until I can afford a prime lens, this is the one I use.

How can I check out a used canon digital rebel xt before buying it?

This will be my first dslr camera and I need to know what to check or look for to make sure nothing is wrong with it. Any advice? Thank you!
Sure.
Take a CF card with you and do some tests with it using what ever lens the individual is selling with it.
Take the CF card home and using the card reader on your computer (or a USB 2.0 reader you can buy for under $10), look at the results of the images you shot on your large computer monitor.
If you shoot some shots of the blank sky, you will be able to quickly determine if you have any dust on the cameras sensor.

Is there a significant learning different between the Canon Digital Rebel XT and the Canon 40D?

I was wondering is there a big learning difference between the two camera? What is on the 40D that I have to learn that is not on the digital rebel? I plan on shooting in manual and in raw.
No, I don’t think you will have too much trouble finding your way around the 40D. If you know how to use the XT…then the 40D is just a step or two up (updated features, and menu etc).
